Hello, Thank you for choosing Mearto for your online appraisal. This item comprises a pair of Chinese yoke back official's hat chairs originating from the 19th century. Notably, these chairs feature a Shuangxi emblem on the backsplat, symbolizing double happiness, a motif associated with auspicious occasions. The chairs boast intricate carving, an old-world lacquer finish, and a distinctively worn appearance with a craquelure patina, adding character to the overall aesthetic. Crafted with meticulous old-world joinery techniques, these chairs showcase the timeless artistry of Chinese furniture making. The smooth finish and distressed look contribute to their charm, making them a splendid pair of accent chairs. Beyond their visual appeal, these chairs stand as tangible artifacts that capture the craftsmanship and cultural symbolism prevalent in 19th-century Chinese furniture design, serving as both functional pieces and artistic expressions of tradition and fortune.
